Welcome Spring—MV of the Chinese New Year 2025 at Tokyo Towe

(Reported by Su Qing from Culture Figures) On the evening of January 28th, the event “Lighting up the Tokyo Tower in China Red 2025” was grandly held at the Tokyo Tower in Japan. This event was hosted by the Organizing Committee for Lighting up the Tokyo Tower in China Red, supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the Japan Asia Community Cultural Cooperation Organization (a publicly-funded institution). It was co-organized by the China International Culture Exchange Center, China Culture Figures Magazine, the World Federation of Chinese Entrepreneurs Organization, the China Association for Rehabilitation Technology Transformation and Development (CARTTP), the China Association for Promotion of Cultural Exchange and Cooperation, the China National Traditional Orchestra, the China National Opera House, the CIM Music Production Center, DAAO International Exchange Co., Ltd., Asia-Pacific Tourism Co., Ltd., Beijing Golden Rose Advertising Co., Ltd., the Association of Chinese Education in Japan, Seika Co., Ltd., Kawai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Kawai Shin. It also received special support from TOKYO TOWER, Inc.
Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao, Komeito Party leader Saitō Tetsuo of Japan, Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Hiroshi Moriyama of Japan, former Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, former Tokyo Governor Masuzoe Yōichi and other guests from China and Japan attended the event. Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China Chen Xu, and Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko delivered speeches via video.
This event coincided with the first Spring Festival after the Spring Festival was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, thus carrying special historical significance. Through animation, a cultural form beloved by the people of both China and Japan, the event built a new bridge for cultural exchange between the two countries. Since the first “Lighting up the Tokyo Tower in China Red” event was held in 2019, this event has become an important cultural symbol demonstrating the friendship between China and Japan, and has received extensive support from both the governments and civil societies of the two countries.
The event “Lighting up the Tokyo Tower in China Red 2025” takes “Welcome Spring” as its theme and features anime culture. For the first time, it has carried out in-depth cooperation with the world-class IP Pokémon. A specially-customized Spring Festival-themed animation will be presented at the observation deck of the Tokyo Tower to showcase the creative integration of Chinese and Japanese cultures. The organizers are sparing no efforts to create a unique grand event that combines Chinese and Japanese cultures.
During the lighting ceremony, a star-studded artistic lineup will also make a wonderful appearance: Chen Libao from the China National Traditional Orchestra and a group of folk music artists will present their work Black Myth: Wukong; the famous singer Mao Huafeng will perform the theme song of Ultraman Tiga, Miracle Reappears; You Hongfei, a famous soprano singer from the China National Opera House, will passionately interpret Ballet in Spring; Miura Yutaro, the son of the famous Japanese film and TV star Yutaro Miura, will sing the theme song of Blood Ties, Thank You. In addition, the wonderful performances of the Mixed-Voice Choir Chinese Melody: A Journey of Sounds are also highly anticipated.
At the event site, 2,025 balloons printed with panda and Pokémon patterns will be released, symbolizing that the friendship between China and Japan will soar to new heights.
A traditional “Kagamibiraki” ceremony symbolizing the celebration of the Chinese New Year will be held at the event. Chinese and Japanese guests will jointly break open a sake barrel, which implies that the relations between the two countries will reach new levels.
On the large screen at the Tokyo Tower’s observation deck, the Chinese characters “迎春” (Welcome Spring) will be displayed in Chinese calligraphy fonts. This will illuminate the Tokyo night sky with the Chinese New Year culture full of Oriental charm.
This event was broadcast live simultaneously by mainstream media including China Culture Figures Network (International), Japan Top Live, Tokyo Broadcasting, China News VIP, Cultural Figures Network, and the YouTube channel “China News”.
