The "Imagery · The Orient" — Xu Li's Oil Painting Art Exhibition features the artist's latest achievements in his exploration of the fusion between Eastern and Western art, highlighting the essence of Chinese aesthetics, promoting contemporary Chinese values, and celebrating the spirit of Chinese culture. The exhibition makes a significant contribution to fostering cultural exchanges between China and Japan and advancing the development of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Xu Li is considered one of the most representative contemporary Chinese artists and a recognized leader in the Chinese art world. His work embodies the fusion of Eastern and Western styles, diverse subject matter, and a distinctive artistic approach. As an artist emerging in the new era, Xu Li excels in both oil painting and traditional Chinese painting. His versatility stems from two sources: on one hand, his ability to integrate and draw inspiration from foreign art forms, including innovative concepts from modern and contemporary Western art; on the other, his deep research into centuries-old iconic Chinese artistic themes and techniques. Xu Li blends the intrinsic qualities of oil painting with techniques from traditional Chinese painting, incorporating the expressive brushwork of Chinese ink painting. He also draws from the compositional structure, spatial arrangements, and aesthetic resonance of traditional Chinese landscape painting. At the same time, his brushwork and use of color distinctly reflect the language of oil painting and a modern aesthetic, characterized by Chinese ethos, values, and spirit.
This exhibition, as the first installment of the "Imagery · The Orient" — Contemporary Chinese Artworks (Japan) series, will run until October 19.
