Chinese Cultural Figures(Journaliste en chef  Wang Baosheng)2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Series of the Unadorned Charm - The Cai Ju Abstract Painting Exhibition will grandly hold in the National Art Museum of China on May 29. Dozens of magnificent, colorful and thrilling masterpieces are not only Cai Ju’s review and summary of his artistic life, but also the most beautiful blessing he gave to the 70th birthday of the motherland.
2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. Striving ahead for the past 70 years, our country has made earth-shaking changes. Whether in the history of the Chinese nation or that of the world, this is an epic struggle that touches the world, worthy of being eulogized for writers and artists with passions, efforts and devotion. Series of the Unadorned Charm—Exhibition of Abstract Paintings by Cai Ju was opened at the National Art Museum of China on May 29, which is a summary and review of his artistic life, and also the best wishes for the 70th birthday of the motherland.
Cai Ju, a famous oil painter and winner of “Pollock Artist”, the international gold medal on abstract painting, is an artist with profound expertise and comprehensive cultivation. In decades of art practice, he has been inheriting traditional Chinese painting aesthetics, and meanwhile actively mastering western painting techniques, endeavoring to realize the similarities and differences between the traditional Chinese freehand brushwork ink painting and modern western abstract painting. Moreover, he has truly matched well of Chinese and Western, achieved mastery through a comprehensive study, created masterpieces handed down from ancient times, and made outstanding achievements in abstract art, known as “China’s Little Zhao Wuji”. The Contemporary Chinese Art Research Foundation of the United States awarded him the honor of “Pollock Artist”, and made the awarding comment: Cai Ju’s works express the traditional Chinese aesthetic philosophy, which is the Oriental beauty that western artists can clearly understand, and reflects the philosophy of the Taoism without the need to be annotated with words. Shao Dazhen, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and a famous art critic, said Cai’s abstract works “convey to people the harmonious and passionate enterprising spirit in the Chinese culture”. American art critic Ramona Hauscher said of his works, “the most prominent features are ‘Chinese elements’ and ‘primitive beauty’, and will be the leader of the international market for abstract painting art in the future!” The IARAA awarded him the title of “pioneering artist linking the East and West”, and he became another Chinese abstract artist famous in overseas mainstream painting circles after Zhao Wuji.
“I’m 78 years old. It is a compliment to my artistic creation and a privilege for me personally to hold a solo exhibition in the highest-level art hall in China.” When talking about this exhibition, Cai Ju turns particularly excited. He said that all in this exhibition are abstract art works, and large in size, for considering that the 420-square-meter exhibition hall is more than six meters high, it won’t have good effect to exhibit the works that hang at home. Therefore, since 2018, he has created dozens of large abstract paintings specifically. The 27 works selected this time, not only large in size, but also with strong visual impact, filled this hall.
Mr. Cai has long traveled between China, Indonesia and the United States in a tireless pursuit of art. In 2005, he served as a visiting professor at the New Jersey Academy of Fine Arts. In 2006, he was awarded the “Gold Leaf Award” by the American Society for the Exchange of Chinese and American cultures, and was honored the title of “pioneering artist linking the East and West” by IARAA.
Cai Ju’s works have been exhibited for more than 60 times in the United States, France, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, China Taiwan and other countries and regions, winning many international awards.
Cai Ju has been exploring dedicatedly for decades and painting diligently even in his 80s. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he took up the paintbrush and used art to reflect the struggle and practice of the party and the people in the past 70 years, interpreted the great achievements made by the historic transformation, and provided strong spiritual inspiration for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. We expect the success of the exhibition, and wish that the artists to inherit the traditions, absorb foreign essence, keep future-oriented, make transformation in succession, make progress in learning, and create more outstanding works which embody the quintessence of Chinese culture, reflect the Chinese aesthetic pursuit, spread contemporary Chinese values, and keep in line with the world progress trend, making our national art with distinct Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, Chinese elegance outstand in the world.
